Why is PE so important?
Physical Education is a core subject in the National Curriculum, and at Sellincourt Primary School, we aim to inspire all children to develop a lifelong love for physical activity and sport. Our vision is for every pupil to reach their full potential and lead an active, healthy lifestyle. We are committed to making PE lessons fun, engaging, and accessible to all, ensuring they are both enjoyable and challenging. Through our PE program, we want students to understand the many benefits of staying active, while also nurturing key values like teamwork, fairness, and problem-solving. Additionally, we provide opportunities for pupils to participate in competitive sports, helping them develop important life skills along the way.
We have an on-site swimming pool and swimming lessons are provided for children in Reception – Year 4. Year 5 and 6 travel to Tooting Leisure Centre for swimming lessons to provide them with a bigger space.
In Year 6, all children have the opportunity to take the cycling proficiency test, which helps prepare them for safe cycling to secondary school.
